Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION A PROPOSED RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND CELEBRATE THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STICKNEY POLICE ASSOCIATION WHEREAS, The Village of Stickney rose on what was once Mud Lake, which stretched from Harlem Avenue to Kedzie Avenue at one time; and WHEREAS, The Village was named after Alpheus Beede Stickney, a native of Maine, who was the first president of the Chicago Great Western Railway; and WHEREAS, The Village was incorporated on December 16, 1913, and The Stickney Police Department was formed the same year; and WHEREAS, Twelve years later, in 1925 The Stickney Police Association was chartered and is the oldest organization in the Village of Stickney; and WHEREAS, Their primary goal is to work towards the betterment of the Stickney Police Department, by serving not only the civic but also the financial interests of the community; and WHEREAS, The Stickney Police Association's interest is in maintaining high village standards and assisting in worthwhile organizat...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

A PROPOSED RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND CELEBRATE THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STICKNEY POLICE ASSOCIATION

 

WHEREAS, The Village of Stickney rose on what was once Mud Lake, which stretched from Harlem Avenue to Kedzie Avenue at one time; and

 

WHEREAS, The Village was named after Alpheus Beede Stickney, a native of Maine, who was the first president of the Chicago Great Western Railway; and

 

WHEREAS, The Village was incorporated on December 16, 1913, and The Stickney Police Department was formed the same year; and

 

WHEREAS, Twelve years later, in 1925 The Stickney Police Association was chartered and is the oldest organization in the Village of Stickney; and

 

WHEREAS, Their primary goal is to work towards the betterment of the Stickney Police Department, by serving not only the civic but also the financial interests of the community; and

 

WHEREAS, The Stickney Police Association’s interest is in maintaining high village standards and assisting in worthwhile organizations; and

 

WHEREAS, The membership is comprised of current and former police officers, auxiliary police officers, and elected officials residing within the Village of Stickney; and

 

WHEREAS, The Stickney Police Association organized the Stickney Police Reserve Organization; and

 

WHEREAS, From 1929 to 1937, during the depression years, the Stickney Police Association

furnished coal and food to many Stickney families; and

 

WHEREAS, The Stickney Police Association loaned money to the Village of Stickney during the depression years to pay police officer salaries; and

 

WHEREAS, The Stickney Police Association provided scholarship funds to send a Stickney resident to Washington D.C. to participate in the People to People Ambassador program; and

 

WHEREAS, The Stickney Police Association supports their schools such as purchasing uniforms for the Edison School Boys & Girls 5th Grade Basketball teams; and

 

WHEREAS, The Stickney Police Association also supports local organizations, such as the Stickney Forest View Lions Club, American Legion Post 687 and Stickney Youth Football Association; and

 

WHEREAS, As embodied above, The Stickney Police Association's motto of "Maintain Good Fellowship" has never wavered, it will always prevail.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Cook County Commissioner Sean M. Morrison and the Cook County Board of Commissioners, extends its sincere congratulations and gratitude to the Stickney Police Association for 100 years of Service and Fellowship; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body and that an official copy of the same be tendered to the Stickney Police Association.
