RESOLUTION COMMENDING MILLIE BURGOS FOR HER DEDICATION TO COMMUNITY AND ADVOCACY

 

WHEREAS, Millie Burgos, a resident of the 10th District of Cook County, has demonstrated extraordinary resilience and unwavering commitment to her community in the face of profound personal tragedy; and

 

WHEREAS, following the devastating loss of her 18-year-old daughter, Alexandria Imani Burgos, to gun violence, Millie Burgos transformed her grief into action, becoming a tireless advocate for gun violence prevention and support for grieving parents; and

 

WHEREAS, Millie Burgos has dedicated over 25 years to serving students and parents through Chicago Public Schools, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to education and community well-being; and

 

WHEREAS, for the past three years, Millie Burgos has served as an Outreach Facilitator at Rincon Family Services, empowering formerly incarcerated individuals with second chances and providing youth with valuable career training opportunities; and

 

WHEREAS, Millie Burgos has established the annual Alexandria Imani Burgos Community Tribute and Scholarship at Wilbur Wright College, honoring her daughter's memory and supporting aspiring social workers; and

 

WHEREAS, Millie Burgos actively volunteers and collaborates with numerous organizations, including Chicago’s Citizens for Change, ILGVP (One Aim), People for Safer Society, Mothers for Peace and Justice, Everytown Survivor, Moms Demand Action, Mothers for Justice and Equality, and the Imani Dream Angel Foundation, advocating for gun violence prevention and mental health awareness; and

 

WHEREAS, Millie Burgos travels to Washington D.C. and Springfield to amplify her advocacy efforts and effect meaningful change; and

 

WHEREAS, Millie Burgos's unwavering dedication and tireless efforts have made a significant and positive impact on the lives of countless individuals and families in Cook County;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners, under the leadership of Commissioner Bridget Gainer, hereby commends Millie Burgos for her extraordinary dedication to community service, her unwavering advocacy for gun violence prevention, and her profound commitment to supporting grieving families; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners expresses its sincere gratitude to Millie Burgos for her invaluable contributions to the well-being of the residents of Cook County and recognizes her as a true warrior and inspiration to all.
