PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING CHIEF NURSING OFFICER OF COOK COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH DENISE GILBERT ON HER RETIREMENT
WHEREAS, Denise Gilbert, Chief Nursing Officer of Cook County Department of Public Health and oversees seven grant supported programs that involve nurse home visits and case management for the High-Risk Infant Follow-up, Lead, Perinatal Hepatitis B and Genetics programs, along with Case Management and Direct Observation Therapy for TB services, and the Case management and provision of screening services for our Breast and Cervical Cancer and Hearing & Vision programs in the schools; and
WHEREAS, Denise and her team are responsible for nursing readiness to respond to communicable disease outbreaks and other PH emergencies; and
WHEREAS, Denise began her career with Cook County Health in 2003 as Divisional Nursing Director of Fantus Health Center. She later had oversight of the West Cluster clinics that comprised seven ambulatory health care facilities; and
WHEREAS, Denise served as manager of the Ambulatory Maternal Child Health clinics in Stroger Hospital including the Pediatric Specialty, Prenatal, Gynecology and Family Planning clinics, along with the Antenatal Testing Unit; and
WHEREAS, prior to joining CCH, Ms. Gilbert held various leadership roles including Director of Operations for multiple ambulatory facilities within the Advocate Health Care system and Clinical Nursing Supervisor OB/GYN at Humana Health Care Plans; and
WHEREAS, Denise earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago and her MSN with an emphasis in Nursing Education from Herzing University, Wisconsin graduating Summa cum Laude; and
WHEREAS, Denise has also published Prevention of Preterm Labor Project in a Public Hospital: Breaking down Barriers to Prenatal Care in the Journal of Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing; and
WHEREAS, after decades of dedicated service across multiple healthcare institutions, Denise Gilbert is retiring, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of leadership, service and integrity that will continue to inspire all who had the pleasure of working alongside her; and
WHEREAS, Denise also volunteers with All About Pink Breast Cancer Foundation and What If…Carolyn Y. Adams Breast Cancer Foundation; and
WHEREAS, this Honorable Body wishes to honor Chief Nursing Officer Denise Gilbert for her outstanding service and congratulate her on her retirement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby recognize and commend Chief Nursing Officer Denise Gilbert for her outstanding and selfless service to Cook County and her community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Chief Nursing Officer Denise Gilbert with sincere gratitude and best wishes for joy, rest, and fulfillment in her well-earned retirement.
