Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER 25, 2021 AS, "GLOBAL ISMAILI CIVIC DAY" IN COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS WHEREAS, Ismaili CIVIC is a global program under which the Shia Ismaili Muslim community across the world has united around its centuries-old tradition of serving humanity by rendering voluntary service to improve the quality of life of the communities in which it lives; and, WHEREAS, the international endeavor reflects the community's ethic of civic engagement and good citizenship, exemplifying Islam's core values of service, peace, compassion and care for the vulnerable; and, WHEREAS, on September 25, 2021, the Global Ismaili CIVIC Day ("GICD") will commemorate serving humanity and enriching lives in the communities in all the countries in which Ismaili Muslims live, including Cook County, Illinois, USA; and, WHEREAS, across the world, 29 countries will be partaking in over 250 volunteer service projects on the Global Ismaili CIVIC Day; and, WHEREAS, on GICD, a diverse a...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER 25, 2021 AS, “GLOBAL ISMAILI CIVIC DAY” IN COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS

 

WHEREAS, Ismaili CIVIC is a global program under which the Shia Ismaili Muslim community across the world has united around its centuries-old tradition of serving humanity by rendering voluntary service to improve the quality of life of the communities in which it lives; and,

 

WHEREAS, the international endeavor reflects the community’s ethic of civic engagement and good citizenship, exemplifying Islam’s core values of service, peace, compassion and care for the vulnerable; and,

 

WHEREAS, on September 25, 2021, the Global Ismaili CIVIC Day (“GICD”) will commemorate serving humanity and enriching lives in the communities in all the countries in which Ismaili Muslims live, including Cook County, Illinois, USA; and,

 

WHEREAS, across the world, 29 countries will be partaking in over 250 volunteer service projects on the Global Ismaili CIVIC Day; and,

 

WHEREAS, on GICD, a diverse array of activities will occur simultaneously across the world focused on two themes: Pandemic Response and Environmental Stewardship; and,

 

WHEREAS, this year, GICD will bring together over 20,000 volunteers across the globe to work with their local communities, governments, and civil society partners to contribute their time, knowledge, and skills for the betterment of their fellow citizens; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Global Ismaili CIVIC Day in Cook County, Illinois aims to contribute hundreds of hours of community service by volunteers and restore, rehabilitate and beautify the Cook County Forest Preserves District; and,

 

WHEREAS, to date, Ismaili CIVIC volunteers in Cook County exemplified pluralism and promoted equity through improving the quality of life of community members through hundreds of programs benefitting thousands of people in the areas of Health (including pandemic response, Education, Economic Development, Environmental Stewardship, and Culture; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby salute the service of therapy animal teams in our community and in communities across the nation; and,

 

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Cook County Broad of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, hereby proclaims September 25, 2021 as, “Global Ismaili CIVIC Day,” in Cook County, IL and encourages the citizens of Cook County to participate in Ismaili CIVIC initiatives during the weekend of September 25, 2021.
