PROPOSED RESOLUTION
ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION TO COOK COUNTY
WHEREAS, in 2021, the Office of the President launched its Emmy-award winning Project Rainbow initiative, aimed at addressing educational challenges by providing free educational programing for children and adults; and
WHEREAS, Project Rainbow created Cook County’s first ever mobile app and partnered with world-class organizations and institutions to acquire hundreds of hours of childhood content for children and families, helped establish the Provident Scholarship Fund which has awarded more than $4 million in scholarships to over 200 students in the medical field since 2022 and much more; and
WHEREAS, in October of 2025, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle announced the expansion of Cook County’s Project Rainbow initiative through Grow with Google to adult learners; and
WHEREAS, through this collaboration, Google will provide no-cost scholarships for Google Career Certificates, which will help hundreds of Cook County residents gain the skills they need to grow their careers or start new ones; and
WHEREAS, bringing Google Career Certificates into the program marks the next chapter for Project Rainbow to focus not only on childhood education, but now also on adult learners who are eager to re-skill or take the next step in their professional journey; and
WHEREAS, Google, located in Mountain View, California, desires to donate 500 no-cost scholarships for Google Career Certificates for Cook County residents; and
WHEREAS, the donated scholarships will be awarded by Cook County through an application process.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Cook County Board of Commissioners, that Cook County is hereby authorized to accept this donation on behalf of the Cook County President’s Office.
