PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING LANE TECH COACH MATT O'HAGAN FOR ILLINOIS COACH OF THE YEAR RECOGNITION IN BOYS SWIMMING & DIVING
WHEREAS, Coach Matt O'Hagan of Lane Tech High School was selected to receive the 2024-2025 National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Boys Swimming & Diving Illinois Coach of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, under Coach O'Hagan's leadership, the Lane Tech boys swim team won the City Championship for the first time in 16 years and went on to win the school's first ever Sectional Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Lane Tech boys swim team placed fourth at the State Swimming and Diving Championships, marking the first time any Chicago Public Schools boys swim team has placed in the top 10 since the 1955-1956 season, and the first time since the 1951-1952 season that a CPS boys swim team has placed in the top five at the State meet; and
WHEREAS, during the 2024-2025 season, the team broke 12 of 13 school records and 5 of 12 Chicago Public League records, and earned its first All-American swimming honors since 1953, with seven All-American honors across multiple events; and
WHEREAS, Coach O'Hagan has served as the Head Swim Coach at Lane Tech High School for seven seasons, alongside Assistant Coach Heather Saylor and Volunteer Coach Tim O'Neil; and
WHEREAS, seven student-athletes, Owen Huynh, Alexander Ivascu, Aleksander Arsic, George Ivascu, Ashton Boeke, Aidan Kaplan, and diver Owen Lee, combined to earn All-American honors and contribute to the team's historic fourth place finish at State; and
WHEREAS, through his leadership, Coach O'Hagan has built a culture of excellence, teamwork, and dedication, guiding his student-athletes to achieve success both in and out of the pool; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Cook County Board of Commissioners hereby honor and congratulate Coach Matt O'Hagan on being named the 2024-2025 NFHS Illinois Boys Swimming & Diving Coach of the Year and celebrate the remarkable achievemen...
