Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 13 - 19, 2017 AS NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK THROUGHOUT COOK COUNTY WHEREAS, the Cook County Board of Commissioners knows a highly skilled workforce is necessary to compete in the global economy and to support economic growth; and WHEREAS, the Cook County Committee on Workforce, Housing & Community Development was in part created to promote conversation about ways apprenticeships can continue to respond to workforce challenges in the 21st century, WHEREAS, the increasingly competitive global labor market calls for a rigorous and innovative investment in training, and it is increasingly clear that apprenticeships are part of the answer. To build the workforce of the future, we need to build a diverse pipeline today; and WHEREAS, registered apprenticeships are becoming increasingly innovative and diverse in design, partnerships and timeframes; and will continue to evolve to meet emerging skills and employer requirements; and WHE...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 13 - 19, 2017 AS NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK THROUGHOUT COOK COUNTY

 

WHEREAS, the Cook County Board of Commissioners knows a highly skilled workforce is necessary to compete in the global economy and to support economic growth; and

 

WHEREAS, the Cook County Committee on Workforce, Housing & Community Development was in part created to promote conversation about ways apprenticeships can continue to respond to workforce challenges in the 21st century,

 

WHEREAS, the increasingly competitive global labor market calls for a rigorous and innovative investment in training, and it is increasingly clear that apprenticeships are part of the answer. To build the workforce of the future, we need to build a diverse pipeline today; and

 

WHEREAS, registered apprenticeships are becoming increasingly innovative and diverse in design, partnerships and timeframes; and will continue to evolve to meet emerging skills and employer requirements; and

 

WHEREAS, it is imperative that we continue to encourage the development of, and enrollment in, apprenticeship programs, as they are a win-win for both employers and employees and a tried and tested method of skilling up our workforce; and

 

WHEREAS, celebration of National Apprenticeship Week honors industries that use the registered apprenticeship model that encourages expansion of the registered apprenticeship model to prepare highly skilled workers of the United States in advanced manufacturing, the trades, and increasingly in the financial and IT sectors; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Cook County Board of Commissioners do hereby proclaim November 13 - 19 as Apprenticeship Week across Cook County.
