PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING MRS. EULA MAE ALEXANDER MITCHELL ON HER 100TH BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, Cook County takes great pride in recognizing extraordinary residents whose lives reflect unwavering dedication to public service, education, and community betterment; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Eula Mae Alexander Mitchell, born December 15, 1925, in Thibodaux, Louisiana, has resided in Chicago for over seventy years, contributing immeasurably to the lives of countless Cook County residents; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Mitchell is a distinguished graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana, the nation’s only Catholic Historically Black College and University (HBCU), and a pioneer who overcame the challenges of segregation to earn her graduate degree from Loyola University Chicago; and
WHEREAS, throughout her career, she served as a psychiatric social worker at Cook County Hospital, a probation officer at Cook County Juvenile Court, a truant officer with the Chicago Board of Education, and a long-serving special education teacher, advocating tirelessly for the rights and opportunities of youth; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Mitchell has been an active and dedicated member of Delta Sigma Theta Inc., through its Chicago graduate chapter, mentoring young leaders and advancing civic engagement; and
WHEREAS, her 100th birthday on December 15, 2025, is a momentous occasion that celebrates her remarkable life, her contributions to the people of Cook County, and her enduring legacy of service.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Cook County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim December 15, 2025, as Eula Mae Alexander Mitchell Day in Cook County, Illinois, and encourage all residents to honor her exceptional life and lasting impact.
