Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING APRIL 30, 2026 AS D?A DE LOS NI?OS (CHILDREN'S DAY) WHEREAS, D?a del Ni?o, also known as Children's Day in English, has been celebrated annually in M?xico since 1925; and WHEREAS, it was first honored during President ?lvaro Obreg?n's term after he joined the World Conference on Child Welfare in Geneva, which was held in light of World War I's impact on the wellness of vulnerable children; and WHEREAS, the United Nations suggested countries adopt a National Children's Day in honor of the Children's Rights Declaration of 1959; and WHEREAS, it is society's responsibility to protect and defend the inalienable rights of children; and WHEREAS, children have the right to emotional and physical stability, which is inhibited through separation from their parents and family; and WHEREAS, children have the right to an education, a social life, and a promising future; and WHEREAS, children have the right to healthy foods to prevent malnutrition and hunger; ...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

RECOGNIZING APRIL 30, 2026 AS DÍA DE LOS NIÑOS (CHILDREN’S DAY)

 

WHEREAS, Día del Niño, also known as Children’s Day in English, has been celebrated annually in México since 1925; and

 

WHEREAS, it was first honored during President Álvaro Obregón’s term after he joined the World Conference on Child Welfare in Geneva, which was held in light of World War I’s impact on the wellness of vulnerable children; and

 

WHEREAS, the United Nations suggested countries adopt a National Children's Day in honor of the Children's Rights Declaration of 1959; and

 

WHEREAS, it is society’s responsibility to protect and defend the inalienable rights of children; and

 

WHEREAS, children have the right to emotional and physical stability, which is inhibited through separation from their parents and family; and

 

WHEREAS, children have the right to an education, a social life, and a promising future; and

 

WHEREAS, children have the right to healthy foods to prevent malnutrition and hunger; and

 

WHEREAS, children have the right to good health, protection from illness, and access to healthcare; and

 

WHEREAS, children have the right to safe drinking water and proper sanitary conditions; and

 

WHEREAS, children have the right to freely express themselves, have opinions, have access to information, and to participate in decisions that affect their lives; and

 

WHEREAS, children are our future. They have the right to live in a safe, secure and caring environment that preserves the child's well-being; and

 

WHEREAS, in many countries, April 30, 2026, Día de los Niños (Children’s Day) recognizes the achievements and contributions of children.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners recognizes Sunday, April 30th, 2026, as Día de los Niños (Children’s Day).  end
