Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF NATIONAL CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS MONTH 2024 WHEREAS, The Cook County Board of Commissioners are dedicated to providing everyone in Cook County the information necessary to promote the understanding, implementation, and success of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month to help residents of Cook County stay safe online and connect to the Internet with confidence; and WHEREAS, Cybersecurity Awareness Month was launched by the National Cybersecurity Alliance & the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in October 2004 and in 2022, Cook County became a cyber champion, representing those dedicated to promoting a safer, more secure digital world; and WHEREAS, during Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Cook County highlights the importance of safeguarding critical infrastructure from malicious cyber activity and protecting residents as well as businesses from ransomware and other attacks; and WHEREAS, Cook County has created a comprehensive security...

RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF NATIONAL CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS MONTH 2024

WHEREAS, The Cook County Board of Commissioners are dedicated to providing everyone in Cook County the information necessary to promote the understanding, implementation, and success of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month to help residents of Cook County stay safe online and connect to the Internet with confidence; and

WHEREAS, Cybersecurity Awareness Month was launched by the National Cybersecurity Alliance & the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in October 2004 and in 2022, Cook County became a cyber champion, representing those dedicated to promoting a safer, more secure digital world; and

WHEREAS, during Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Cook County highlights the importance of safeguarding critical infrastructure from malicious cyber activity and protecting residents as well as businesses from ransomware and other attacks; and

WHEREAS, Cook County has created a comprehensive security and privacy policy to protect residents' information and govern the County's handling practices, collection, and use of personal data, as well as the specific rights of Data Subjects;

WHEREAS, Cybersecurity Awareness Month reminds everyone that there are simple, effective ways to keep safe online, protect personal data, and ultimately help secure our world even amidst large-scale data breaches and cyberattacks; and

WHEREAS, Residents can also take immediate action to better protect themselves such as turning on multifactor authentication, updating software on computers and devices, using strong passwords, and remaining cautious of links that look suspicious; and

WHEREAS, Today, and every day, Cook County recognizes that there is always more to do and therefore commits to advancing this vision from a position of strength.
