HONORING THE IRVING PARK COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY

WHEREAS, the Irving Park Community Food Pantry, located in the 10th District of Cook County, was established in 1984 by members of the Irving Park United Methodist Church who recognized the growing need for reliable and compassionate food assistance for neighbors facing economic hardship; and

WHEREAS, what began as a small, volunteer-run effort has grown into a cornerstone institution for the Northwest Side, providing essential nutrition support, dignity, and community resources to residents of Old Irving Park, Irving Park East, Independence Park, Avondale, Kilbourn Park, and surrounding neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, the Irving Park Community Food Pantry serves thousands of individuals and families each year, offering not only food assistance but also programs that promote stability and wellbeing, including pet food distribution, seasonal holiday programs, clothing resources, and connections to social services; and

WHEREAS, the Pantry has remained steadfast in its mission that "we are neighbors helping neighbors," responding with extraordinary commitment during times of heightened need, including the COVID-19 pandemic and periods of economic strain, by expanding hours, increasing distribution capacity, and mobilizing volunteers to ensure no household is left without support; and

WHEREAS, the dedicated volunteers, staff, community partners, and donors of the Irving Park Community Food Pantry embody the values of compassion, community service, and collective responsibility that strengthen the social fabric of Cook County; and

WHEREAS, the Pantry continues to innovate and collaborate with local schools, community organizations, and public agencies to address the root causes of food insecurity and build a healthier, more resilient Northwest Side; and
