Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF GATLING'S CHAPEL WHEREAS, Gatling's Chapel was founded in 1985 by the late Lafayette Gatling Sr. and his wife, Marguerite Ewell Gatling, visionaries and trailblazers in funeral service; and WHEREAS, the chapel has served Chicago's South Side with care, dignity, and professionalism for 40 years; and WHEREAS, Gatling's Chapel introduced innovative practices, including drive-thru viewings, to meet the evolving needs of the community; and WHEREAS, the funeral home has provided comfort and guidance to countless families during their most difficult times; and WHEREAS, the Gatling family believes deeply in service, compassion, and honoring the lives of the departed; and WHEREAS, Gatling's Chapel has been a source of employment and mentorship for many within the community; and WHEREAS, the legacy of Mr. Gatling continues through his wife, Mrs. Marguerite Ewell Gatling; his daughters, Shirl Gatling-Lacey and Marquita Gatling; his gran...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

HONORING THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF GATLING’S CHAPEL

 

WHEREAS, Gatling’s Chapel was founded in 1985 by the late Lafayette Gatling Sr. and his wife, Marguerite Ewell Gatling, visionaries and trailblazers in funeral service; and

 

WHEREAS, the chapel has served Chicago’s South Side with care, dignity, and professionalism for 40 years; and

 

WHEREAS, Gatling’s Chapel introduced innovative practices, including drive-thru viewings, to meet the evolving needs of the community; and

 

WHEREAS, the funeral home has provided comfort and guidance to countless families during their most difficult times; and

 

WHEREAS, the Gatling family believes deeply in service, compassion, and honoring the lives of the departed; and

 

WHEREAS, Gatling’s Chapel has been a source of employment and mentorship for many within the community; and

 

WHEREAS, the legacy of Mr. Gatling continues through his wife, Mrs. Marguerite Ewell Gatling; his daughters, Shirl Gatling-Lacey and Marquita Gatling; his grandchildren, Aaron Gatling, Lyric Johnson, and Melody Johnson; along with the dedicated staff of Gatling’s Chapel; and

 

WHEREAS, the chapel has maintained a strong commitment to cultural respect and spiritual support; and

 

WHEREAS, its 40th Anniversary celebration on June 1, 2025, honors decades of leadership and lasting community impact; and

 

WHEREAS, Gatling’s Chapel remains a trusted institution and a cornerstone of strength on the South Side of Chicago.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Commissioners of Cook County, that the Board does hereby honor and recognize Gatling’s Chapel on its 40th Anniversary, express our heartfelt appreciation for its service, and wish continued success for generations to come.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body and that an official copy of the same be tendered to the family of Lafayette Gatling Sr.
