Honoring Dr. Rudolf K. D. Kumapley, M.D., MBA, CPE Upon His Retirement from Cook County Health
WHEREAS, Dr. Rudolf K. D. Kumapley, M.D., has dedicated more than 30 years of exemplary service to Cook County Health, first joining the health system during his Internal Medicine residency at Cook County Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Kumapley earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Ghana Medical School in 1991, completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Cook County Hospital in 1996, served as Chief Medical Resident in 1997, and went on to build a distinguished career within the Cook County Health & Hospitals System; and
WHEREAS, throughout his tenure, Dr. Kumapley has held numerous leadership roles, including Chair of the Division of Hospital Medicine, Chair of the Utilization Management Committee, Medical Director of John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital beginning in 2019, and Interim Chief Medical Officer (CMO); and
WHEREAS, as Medical Director of Stroger Hospital, Dr. Kumapley provided steady, principled leadership during times of significant challenge and transformation, consistently prioritizing patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and operational integrity; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Kumapley is a board-certified internist, a Certified Physician Executive (CPE), and holds certifications in Health Care Quality and Management, reflecting his deep commitment to quality improvement, utilization management, and physician leadership; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Kumapley has been widely respected by physicians, nurses, staff, administrators, and patients for his professionalism, humility, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to Cook County's mission of providing high-quality care to all, regardless of ability to pay; and
WHEREAS, beyond his formal titles, Dr. Kumapley's compassion and humanity have touched countless lives-patients and families alike-earning him the trust and gratitude of the communities served by Cook County Health; ...
