Whereas, Leroy Taylor, Sr. was born on February 9, 1935, in Lovejoy, Illinois, and peacefully departed this life on February 24, 2025, at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication to his family, community, and country; and Whereas, Leroy Taylor, Sr. was a devoted family man, married to three women over his lifetime-Jean, Hazel, and Lillian-and was the proud father of 10 children, 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren; and Whereas, Leroy Taylor, Sr. early life was marked by hard work, including his service in the United States Army, and his career as a printing-press operator; and Whereas, Leroy Taylor, Sr. passion for social justice led him to become deeply involved in grassroots political movements, including his participation in marches for civil rights, notably marching alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Marquette Park; and Whereas, Leroy Taylor, Sr. served his com...

HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF LEROY TAYLOR, SR.

Whereas, Leroy Taylor, Sr. was born on February 9, 1935, in Lovejoy, Illinois, and peacefully departed this life on February 24, 2025, at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication to his family, community, and country; and

Whereas, Leroy Taylor, Sr. was a devoted family man, married to three women over his lifetime-Jean, Hazel, and Lillian-and was the proud father of 10 children, 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, Leroy Taylor, Sr. early life was marked by hard work, including his service in the United States Army, and his career as a printing-press operator; and

Whereas, Leroy Taylor, Sr. passion for social justice led him to become deeply involved in grassroots political movements, including his participation in marches for civil rights, notably marching alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Marquette Park; and

Whereas, Leroy Taylor, Sr. served his community with loyalty and dedication, joining the Stroger organization in 1965, and playing a pivotal role in the 8th Ward Democratic Organization as the President of the Young Democrats; and

Whereas, Leroy Taylor, Sr. was a faithful member of Park Manor Christian Church where he served in various roles including Deacon; and

Whereas, Leroy Taylor, Sr. was honored with the John H. Stroger, Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009 for his dedication to his community; and

Whereas, Leroy Taylor, Sr. retired with distinction as Deputy Superintendent of the Water Reclamation Department of Chicago and Superintendent of the Cook County Forest Preserves, leaving a lasting impact on public service.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Board of Commissioners of Cook County, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, do hereby recognize Leroy Taylor Sr. whose contributions to his family, his community, and his country will forever be remembered and cherished; and
