PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING ROBERT PROVENZANO ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT
WHEREAS, on July 30, 2016, Robert A. Provenzano retired from the office of Maine Township Highway Commissioner after 18 years in office and nearly 50 years of professional road management experience where he performed his responsibilities tirelessly, worked countless hours in his dedication to provide the very best public service for his constituents; and
WHEREAS, Robert began his career in 1968 as an employee of the Cook County Highway Department where he held the positions of Laborer, Administrative Assistant and Permit Inspector until his retirement in 1998; and
WHEREAS, Robert was first elected to the Maine Township Board as Collector in 1993, a position he held for two years before his appointment to Township Trustee in 1994 where he served until 1998; and
WHEREAS, Robert served the people of Maine Township as Highway Commissioner for the past 18 years, from 1998 to 2016, with the highest level of professionalism and integrity; and
WHEREAS, as Highway Commissioner, Robert was responsible for providing service to nearly 27,000 residents in unincorporated Maine Township, the largest unincorporated population in Cook County, and maintained over 100 streets with 50 lane miles of roadway; and
WHEREAS, during his time in office, Robert oversaw extensive infrastructure improvements, directed aggressive flood mitigation efforts and developed strong working relationships and a 'shared approach' to address regional issues with neighboring municipalities and townships; and
WHEREAS, in 2007, Robert developed the Green Fleet Manual which was an environmental initiative to reduce fuel consumption and pollution by the Maine Township Highway Department and, in turn, Robert distributed 1,000 copies of it statewide for other township governments to utilize; and
