Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE CAREER OF VERNARD L. ALSBERRY, JR. WHEREAS, Vernard L. Alsberry, Jr. was born on October 16, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois; and WHEREAS, Vernard L. Alsberry, Jr. was one of seven brothers who was raised in Chicago's Altgeld Gardens housing project. Upon his graduation from High School, Vernard served 10 years in the United States Air Force rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant; and WHEREAS, upon his completion of service in the United States Air Force, Vernard earned an Associates of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from both the United States Air Force and Mississippi State Community College. He would go on to graduate from Governors State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Health Administration and a Master's Degree in Public Administration; and WHEREAS, Vernard L. PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

CELEBRATING THE CAREER OF VERNARD L. ALSBERRY, JR.

 

WHEREAS, Vernard L. Alsberry, Jr. was born on October 16, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, Vernard L. Alsberry, Jr. was one of seven brothers who was raised in Chicago’s Altgeld Gardens housing project. Upon his graduation from High School, Vernard served 10 years in the United States Air Force rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant; and

 

WHEREAS, upon his completion of service in the United States Air Force, Vernard earned an Associates of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from both the United States Air Force and Mississippi State Community College. He would go on to graduate from Governors State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Administration and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration; and

 

WHEREAS, Vernard L. Alsberry, Jr. has led a successful 34-year career with a background in orthopedic, neurological, and sports medicine services in military and civilian rehabilitation clinics. Vernard has served as an outpatient physical therapy assistant at Advocate Trinity Hospital; and

 

WHEREAS, Vernard L. Alsberry, Jr. interests in clinic services led him to co-found and serve as the Vice President of Superior Therapeutic Services, Inc. that provides home health services and hospital contractual services in the Chicago and Southeast Indiana areas; and

 

WHEREAS, Vernard L. Alsberry, Jr. has a deep passion for youth. Through his love for youth, Vernard founded Kids Health Club.com, a youth fitness center for children ages 6 to 13 years old. He also established the Kid Health Club Foundation, Inc., a foundation that provides youth education programs and seminars that focuses on the prevention of childhood obesity; and

 

WHEREAS, in addition to his career in physical therapy, Vernard L. Alsberry, Jr. is politically involved in his community. He served for eight years as a Hazel Crest Village trustee and elected Mayor in 2013. During his first two years of his term, Vernard’s leadership has secured over $2 million dollars in state and federal grant funding. He also re-established the Hazel Crest Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Commission; and

 

WHEREAS, Vernard L. Alsberry, Jr. believes in giving back to the community. He has served on the Advisory Board of Governors State University, as Past President on the South Southwest United Way, and President of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association, and President of the Southland Regional Mayoral Black Caucus; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the 5.2 million residents, does hereby congratulate Vernard L. Alsberry, Jr. on a 34-year successful career and his many contributions bettering the lives of the citizens of Cook County; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this Resolution be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body and that an official copy of the same be tendered to Vernard L. Alsberry, Jr. and his family in recognition of this honor.
