PROPOSED RESOLUTION
RECOGNIZING THE 18th ANNUAL CHICAGO FOOTBALL CLASSIC
WHEREAS, eighteen years ago local businessmen, Mr. Everett Rand, Mr. Tim Rand and Mr. Larry Huggins desired to empower African-American youth to not only complete high school, but also to promote the benefits of attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU); and
WHEREAS, these men created the Chicago Football Classic, a yearly battle between HBCU powerhouses held at Soldier Field; and
WHEREAS, additional activities will include a President's Reception, an Official CFC Golf Outing, a Pep Rally, an HBCU College Fair and Empowerment Summit, a High School Battle of the Bands, an HBCU Battle of the Bands, a tailgate party, various alumni events, and a Vendor Marketplace; and
WHEREAS, each year the proceeds from this event fund scholarships for local students as well as for students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities; and
WHEREAS, the 18th Annual Chicago Football Classic - featuring the Howard University Bison and the Morgan State University Bears - will be held on September 26, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Howard University was founded in 1867 on a hilltop in Northwest Washington D.C. Its main campus is approximately two miles from the U.S. Capitol. It is a private, research university comprised of 13 schools and colleges. It offers more than 120 areas of study leading to undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees; and
WHEREAS, Morgan State University is located in a residential section of northeast Baltimore, Maryland, and was also founded in 1867. It has been designated as "Maryland's Public Urban University" by the Maryland Legislature. Its stated mission is to "enroll a student body that is diverse in its socioeconomic and academic status and to provide the full-range of experiences and services that permit it to successfully serve students with a wide variety of goals and needs."
