Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION A RESOLUTION HONORING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY AND THE 11,602 WOMEN EMPLOYEES KEEPING COOK COUNTY MOVING FORWARD WHEREAS, International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, and also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity; and, WHEREAS, The theme for International Women's Day 2018 was a call to "Press for Progress" to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive; and, WHEREAS, 11,602 women employees show up to work each week to keep Cook County moving forward; and, WHEREAS, The 11,602 women make up 53% of the County's total workforce, yet the Cook County Board of Commissioners is made up of only 17% women - leaving ample room for progress; and, WHEREAS, Across the state of Illinois, there has been a 39% increase in women running for office in Illinois; and, WHEREAS, The momentum for women's equality has been ste...

A RESOLUTION HONORING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY AND THE 11,602 WOMEN EMPLOYEES KEEPING COOK COUNTY MOVING FORWARD

 

WHEREAS, International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, and also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity; and,

 

WHEREAS, The theme for International Women's Day 2018 was a call to “Press for Progress” to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive; and,

 

WHEREAS, 11,602 women employees show up to work each week to keep Cook County moving forward; and,

 

WHEREAS, The 11,602 women make up 53% of the County’s total workforce, yet the Cook County Board of Commissioners is made up of only 17% women - leaving ample room for progress; and,

 

WHEREAS, Across the state of Illinois, there has been a 39% increase in women running for office in Illinois; and,

 

WHEREAS, The momentum for women’s equality has been steadily gaining over the past year, with two national Women’s March movements, the #MeToo movement, the #TimesUp movement and more.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cook County Board of Commissioners will continue to press for progress for Cook County’s 11,602 women employees.
