Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING UNIVERSAL METRO ASIAN SERVICES WHEREAS, Universal Metro Asian Services (UMAS) has been providing Homecare and Adult Day Care services in the Chicagoland area for over 25 years; and WHEREAS, UMAS was founded by Dr. Santosh Kumar, who migrated to America in 1985; and WHEREAS, upon witnessing the neglect of elderly individuals in America, Dr. Kumar recognized the need to support immigrant families struggling to care for their elderly while managing full-time work, childcare, and cultural assimilation; and WHEREAS, the homecare industry in Chicagoland lacked cultural understanding and effectiveness for ethnic populations; and WHEREAS, Dr. Kumar was determined to alleviate the suffering of South Asian elderly in her community and successfully applied for the Homecare Program from the State of Illinois in 1993. PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

HONORING UNIVERSAL METRO ASIAN SERVICES

 

WHEREAS, Universal Metro Asian Services (UMAS) has been providing Homecare and Adult Day Care services in the Chicagoland area for over 25 years; and

 

WHEREAS, UMAS was founded by Dr. Santosh Kumar, who migrated to America in 1985; and

 

WHEREAS, upon witnessing the neglect of elderly individuals in America, Dr. Kumar recognized the need to support immigrant families struggling to care for their elderly while managing full-time work, childcare, and cultural assimilation; and

 

WHEREAS, the homecare industry in Chicagoland lacked cultural understanding and effectiveness for ethnic populations; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Kumar was determined to alleviate the suffering of South Asian elderly in her community and successfully applied for the Homecare Program from the State of Illinois in 1993. WHEREAS, in 2006, UMAS initiated Adult Day Care Services to provide care for seniors neglected during their children’s work hours. Homecare expanded to 12 locations, and Adult Day Care is currently available at 6 centers; and

 

WHEREAS, the mission of UMAS is to deliver high-quality homecare and adult daycare services tailored to individual cultural, linguistic, and dietary needs, ensuring clients age gracefully with dignity and respect while maintaining independence in their homes; and

 

WHEREAS, the four pillars of UMAS are: Respect, Compassion, Dignity, and Advocacy, each contributing to a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for clients and staff; and

 

WHEREAS, UMAS aims to serve immigrant populations from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Middle East, Latin America, and Europe. Over the past three decades, UMAS has been a leader in meeting the needs of the South Asian immigrant community and has since expanded to serve all communities; and

 

WHEREAS, the members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners are pleased to honor the commendable work of UMAS and express gratitude for their service to the community;

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and Members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners officially honor Universal Metro Asian Services for their exceptional service to Cook County and the State of Illinois; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be recorded in the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and a suitable copy be presented to Universal Metro Asian Services as a token of our respect and esteem.
