Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION A RESOLUTION TO HONOR AND CONGRATULATE CATHERINE BERNADINE DOUGHERTY SHEEHAN'S 100TH BIRTHDAY WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Cook County Board of Commissioners that Bern Sheehan will soon celebrate her 100th Birthday; and WHEREAS, Bern was born on September 3, 1924, and was the second of six children of Michael and Alice (Bartlett) Dougherty; and WHEREAS, Bern married John (Bud) Sheehan on May 31, 1947, at Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Chicago, Illinois; and WHEREAS, Bern and her husband Bud raised six children, the late Michael, Patrick (Teresa), Peggy (Jim) Griffin, Jack (Colleen), Kevin, and Terry (Nancy); and WHEREAS, Bern is the loving grandmother of Kevin, Katie (Tom) Ludwig, Jimmy (Jackie), Patick (Marissa) Griffin, Michael (Kelly), Kimberlee, Kaitlyn, and Tara Sheehan; and WHEREAS, Bern is the adored great grandmother to Ryan, Jack and Ella Ludwig, Juliana, Jimmy, Penelope and Isla Griffin, and Michael Sheehan; and WHEREAS, Bern s...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

A RESOLUTION TO HONOR AND CONGRATULATE CATHERINE BERNADINE DOUGHERTY SHEEHAN’S 100TH BIRTHDAY

 

WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Cook County Board of Commissioners that Bern Sheehan will soon celebrate her 100th Birthday; and

 

WHEREAS, Bern was born on September 3, 1924, and was the second of six children of Michael and Alice (Bartlett)  Dougherty; and

 

 WHEREAS, Bern married John (Bud) Sheehan on May 31, 1947, at Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Chicago, Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, Bern and her husband Bud raised six children, the late Michael, Patrick (Teresa), Peggy (Jim) Griffin, Jack (Colleen), Kevin, and Terry (Nancy); and

 

WHEREAS, Bern is the loving grandmother of Kevin, Katie (Tom) Ludwig, Jimmy (Jackie), Patick (Marissa) Griffin, Michael (Kelly), Kimberlee, Kaitlyn, and Tara Sheehan; and

 

WHEREAS, Bern is the adored great grandmother to Ryan, Jack and Ella Ludwig, Juliana, Jimmy, Penelope and Isla Griffin, and Michael Sheehan; and

 

WHEREAS, Bern still resides at her current address in Bridgeport since 1958.  Bern spends her time knitting and crocheting, doing her word search and soduku puzzles as well as the 175 paint by number pictures; and

 

WHEREAS, Bern is a longtime member of several senior clubs including the 9th District, Armour Square, Taylor Lauridsen, and St. Anthony; and                     

 

WHEREAS Bern has witnessed monumental events over the course of her lifetime such as:  World War I, Russian Revolution, 1917, First Commercial Radio Station, 1920, Era of Depression, 1929-1939, Spanish Civil War, 1936-1939, World War II, 1939-1945, Korean War, 1950-1953, Russian Sputnik, 1957, President Kennedy Assassination, November 1963, First Moon Landing July 20, 1969, Vietnam War, 1965-1973, the dawn of the computer age, and the new Millennium; and

 

WHEREAS Bern Sheehan will celebrate her 100th Birthday with a reception of family and friends at the De La Salle Institute in Chicago, Illinois on August 24, 2024; now therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby extend its warmest wishes and congratulations to Bern Sheehan on the occasion of her 100th Birthday, and join all who have had the pleasure of her friendship in wishing her still more years of good health and richly deserved happiness, and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and an official copy of same be presented to Bern Sheehan to commemorate this joyous occasion.
