Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION IN CELEBRATION OF LAWRENCE AND KATHERINE OLENDORF'S 90TH BIRTHDAYS WHEREAS, Lawrence "Larry" Oldendorf was born August 20, 1934; and, WHEREAS, Katherine "Kay" Oldendorf (nee Kenney) was born September 22, 1934; and, WHEREAS, Kay was raised primarily on the South Side of Chicago in the Little Flower parish, and Larry was also raised on the South Side as a devout Catholic; and, WHEREAS, Kay attended Maria High School and Larry attended De La Salle Institute, where he played tuba and excelled in science; and, WHEREAS, the couple met at a dance at De La Salle Institute and began dating soon after; and, WHEREAS, the couple married at Little Flower on June 6, 1956; and WHEREAS, Larry went on to receive a degree at the Illinois Institute of Technology, which he utilized as a professional safety engineer for the federal government at Argonne National Laboratory; and, WHEREAS, among Larry's many professional accomplishments, with Kay's constant support, he has s...

IN CELEBRATION OF LAWRENCE AND KATHERINE OLENDORF’S 90TH BIRTHDAYS

 

WHEREAS, Lawrence “Larry” Oldendorf was born August 20, 1934; and,

 

WHEREAS, Katherine “Kay” Oldendorf (nee Kenney) was born September 22, 1934; and,

 

WHEREAS, Kay was raised primarily on the South Side of Chicago in the Little Flower parish, and Larry was also raised on the South Side as a devout Catholic; and,

 

WHEREAS, Kay attended Maria High School and Larry attended De La Salle Institute, where he played tuba and excelled in science; and,

 

WHEREAS, the couple met at a dance at De La Salle Institute and began dating soon after; and,

 

WHEREAS, the couple married at Little Flower on June 6, 1956; and

 

WHEREAS, Larry went on to receive a degree at the Illinois Institute of Technology, which he utilized as a professional safety engineer for the federal government at Argonne National Laboratory; and,

 

WHEREAS, among Larry’s many professional accomplishments, with Kay’s constant support, he has served on the board and as president of the American Society of Safety Professionals, contributing to many lives saved across the country and world; and,

 

WHEREAS, soon after their marriage, they welcomed their first daughter, Karen, and relocated briefly to St. Louis, where their second son, Mark, was born; and,

 

WHEREAS, Kay and Larry soon moved back to Cook County, to settle down and raise their family of what became nine children: Karen (Gregg), Mark (Joy), Paul (Mary Kay), Kevin (Michele), Lynn, Susan (Edward), John (Whitney), Peter, and Steven (Dana), all of whom attended St. Albert the Great grade school and either Maria High School, St. Laurence High School or Mount Assisi Academy; and,

 

WHEREAS, Kay and Larry have been a stalwart presence in their parish and their family, having raised their nine children and helped raise 26 grandchildren - Megan, Matthew, Kate, Sean, Michael, Eric, Casey, Patrick, Ryan, Joseph, Daniel, Rachel, Kristyn, Brandon, Colin, Evelyn, Teagan, David, Jessica, Anna, Maxine, Jenna, Jake, Becca, Lyndsay, and Parker; and,

 

WHEREAS, Kay and Larry also celebrate their great grandchildren, Finnegan, Sullivan, Olivia, Leo, Lily, and, they hope, many more; and,

 

WHEREAS, Kay and Larry Oldendorf have contributed much to their community and Cook County as a whole in their 90 years, and they have no plans on stopping any time soon.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners that Kay and Larry Oldendorf are honored on the occasion of their 90th birthdays and thanked for their contributions to Cook County.
