Sullivan will be elevated to Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Chicago on February 26, 2025; and WHEREAS, Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan was born in Chicago, Illinois and earned a B.A. in Political Science from Niles College Seminary of Loyola University Chicago; and WHEREAS, Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan earned a Master of Divinity degree from the University of St. Mary of the Lake Mundelein Seminary in 1988; and WHEREAS, Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan was ordained to the priesthood in 1992; and WHEREAS, Rev. Lawrence J. HONORING REV. LAWRENCE J. SULLIVAN ON THE OCCASION OF HIS ELEVATION TO AUXILIARY BISHOP FOR THE ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO

 

WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Cook County Board of Commissioners that

Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan will be elevated to Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Chicago on February 26, 2025; and

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan was born in Chicago, Illinois and earned a B.A. in Political Science from Niles College Seminary of Loyola University Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan earned a Master of Divinity degree from the University of St. Mary of the Lake Mundelein Seminary in 1988; and

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan was ordained to the priesthood in 1992; and

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan earned a M.S. in Ecclesial Management from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. in 2019; and

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan performed pastoral work at St. Celestine Parish in Elmwood Park, St. Christina Parish in Chicago and currently serves at Christ the King Parish in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood, and

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan has served as Interim Vicar for Vicariate VI since 2023; and

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan is a member of the Archdiocesan School Board and has been a member of the College of Consultors and is a member and vice-chair of the Presbyteral Council; and

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan has worked in the bereavement ministries of the archdiocese since 2013 and has served as interim priest director of Catholic Cemeteries; and

 

WHEREAS, On December 20, 2024, Pope Francis announced the appointment of Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan as an Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Chicago and titular bishop of Lamfua; and

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan has a notable record of pastoral service and has worked tirelessly to improve the educational and spiritual lives of residents across Cook County; and

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Lawrence Sullivan, as interim priest director of Catholic Cemeteries, assisted the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office by providing space at Mount Olivet Cemetery for the respectful burial of indigent remains; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Commissioners of Cook County that the Board does hereby offer its heartfelt thanks to Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan and wishes him much success in his important role as Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Chicago; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and a suitable copy of the same be tendered to Rev. Lawrence J. Sullivan.
