Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION RESOLUTION HONORING LOUIS S. VIVERITO FOR A LIFETIME OF PUBLIC SERVICE WHEREAS, Louis S. Viverito has dedicated more than five decades of his life to public service, leadership, and advocacy on behalf of the residents of Cook County and the State of Illinois; and WHEREAS, Louis S. Viverito honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War and is a three-time decorated veteran; and WHEREAS, Mr. Viverito began his public service career in 1969 as Stickney Township Democratic Committeeman and was elected Supervisor of Stickney Township in 1973, a position he held for more than fifty years; and WHEREAS, Louis S. PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

RESOLUTION HONORING LOUIS S. VIVERITO FOR A LIFETIME OF PUBLIC SERVICE

WHEREAS, Louis S. Viverito has dedicated more than five decades of his life to public service, leadership, and advocacy on behalf of the residents of Cook County and the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Louis S. Viverito honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War and is a three-time decorated veteran; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Viverito began his public service career in 1969 as Stickney Township Democratic Committeeman and was elected Supervisor of Stickney Township in 1973, a position he held for more than fifty years; and

WHEREAS, Louis S. Viverito, since 1973, was the Township Supervisor and President of the Stickney Township Public Health District, he worked tirelessly to expand access to healthcare, senior services, youth programs, transportation services, and community resources for residents throughout the southwest suburban region of Cook County; and

WHEREAS, from 1980 to 1986, Louis S. Viverito served as a Commissioner of the Metropolitan Sanitary District of Greater Chicago, was appointed a  member of the Cook County Zoning Board of Appeals, and as Illinois State Senator for the 11th Legislative District from 1995 through 2011, where he served in leadership positions including Assistant Majority Leader and Minority Whip; and

WHEREAS, during his distinguished legislative career, Senator Viverito championed issues affecting working families, senior citizens, healthcare access, local government, and economic development, earning the respect of colleagues and constituents; and

WHEREAS, Louis S. Viverito sponsored a bill to raise the eligibility threshold for senior citizens qualifying for the Cook County property tax assessment freeze; and

WHEREAS, under his leadership, Stickney Township became widely recognized for innovative public health initiatives and community services that improved the quality of life for thousands of Cook County residents; and

WHEREAS, after more than five decades of elected service to Stickney Township, Louis S. Viverito concluded his tenure in 2025, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and dedication, and through his unwavering commitment to public service, he has made a lasting and positive impact on the communities of Burbank, Stickney Township, and Cook County; and

WHEREAS, Louis S. Viverito will enjoy his retirement spending time with his wife, his children and grandchildren; and

 

BE IT RESOLVED that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby express its gratitude to Louis S. Viverito for his many years of dedicated service, and join all who have had the pleasure of his friendship in wishing many more years of good health and richly deserved happiness, and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and an official copy of same be presented to Louis S. Viverito to commemorate this joyous occasion.
