A RESOLUTION DECLARING AUGUST 31ST AS ADOLESCENT MENSTRUAL HEALTH EQUITY DAY

 

WHEREAS, menstrual health is a crucial aspect of overall health and well-being for adolescents; and

 

WHEREAS, period poverty, defined as the inadequate access to menstrual hygiene products and education, affects millions of girls and young women, leading to missed educational opportunities and significant health risks; and

 

WHEREAS, the stigma and lack of awareness surrounding menstruation contribute to the perpetuation of period poverty and negatively impact the quality of life for many; and

 

WHEREAS, Gyrls In The H.O.O.D Foundation has demonstrated a commitment to addressing period poverty through initiatives such as the Let It Flow Festival, which aims to raise awareness, normalize periods, and provide girls with access to essential menstrual products; and

 

WHEREAS, the Let It Flow Festival, scheduled for August 31st, will feature interactive booths, "Ask the Doctor" sessions, hands-on workshops, live entertainment, and the distribution of free menstrual products, fostering a supportive and educational environment for all attendees; and

 

WHEREAS, designating a specific day to focus on menstrual health equity will amplify the ongoing efforts to combat period poverty and promote the importance of menstrual health education and access.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that on behalf of the President, the members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners and the 5.2 million residents of Cook County, this legislative body declares August 31st as Adolescent Menstrual Health Equity Day to recognize and support the importance of menstrual health education, the fight against period poverty, and the efforts of organizations like Gyrls In The H.O.O.D Foundation; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that on this day, the Cook County Board of Commissioners will encourage schools, healthcare providers, community organizations, and businesses to engage in activities that promote menstrual health awareness and support the distribution of menstrual hygiene products to those in need; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Cook County Board of Commissioners commends Gyrls In The H.O.O.D Foundation for their dedication to this important cause and for organizing events like the Let It Flow Festival that bring our community together to address menstrual health equity; and

 

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the President, the members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners and the 5.2 million residents of Cook County, pledges to continue supporting initiatives that aim to eradicate period poverty and promote menstrual health equity for all adolescents.
