PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE LIFE OF, GEORGE WHITE, IN MEMORIAM
WHEREAS, George White was born on November 9, 1954, in Chicago, IL, to Adrienne Wright White and George White Sr., and was raised by his grandmother, Adrine Whitfield Wright, his Aunt Quilla, and his Uncle Ernest, along with his favorite Aunt Lucy, who all provided him with love and guidance throughout his upbringing; and
WHEREAS, George received his formal education from St. Brendan Elementary School and Hales Franciscan High School, and accepted Christ in his childhood, worshipping at the First Church of Deliverance; and
WHEREAS, George was united in holy matrimony to Linda Griffin White in 1989, and together they were blessed with five children, George Griffin, Damon White, Tina Griffin Bryant, Kim Yarbrough, and Geneva White; and
WHEREAS, George was a dedicated Deacon at New Christian Fellowship MB Church and Christ Cathedral MB Church, and had a fulfilling career as an asbestos remover and later as a nursing home worker with SEIU Local 4, where he tirelessly served for over 20 years, eventually transitioning to the Homecare division as a homecare aide, exemplifying his commitment to service; and
WHEREAS, George was a beloved member of his community and actively engaged in Chicago politics, serving Mayor Brandon Johnson and canvassing for the Bring Chicago Home coalition and referendum, advocating for racial and economic justice for the working class; and
WHEREAS, George White's leadership within SEIU HCIIMK was marked by his calm, levelheaded, and driven approach to bargaining, securing historic raises and benefits for thousands of home care workers and influencing union-wide decisions that impacted a vast number of healthcare and child care providers in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Kansas; and
WHEREAS, George White's legacy is one of faith, dedication, and service to others, leaving behind cherished memories for his wife, children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and a mult...
