RECOGNIZING ST. BARNABAS CATHOLIC CHURCH ON ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY

 

WHEREAS in 1924, the Archdiocese of Chicago recognized the need for a new parish in Chicago’s Beverly community to serve the growing Catholic population, and St. Barnabas Catholic Church was founded in response, and

 

WHEREAS the parish community has a strong religious, cultural, and social background with a variety of ethnic groups contributing to its rich history, and the community takes great pride in its long heritage at St. Barnabas, and

 

WHEREAS in response to the changing needs of a diverse community, St. Barnabas Catholic Church has served numerous families, and continues to open its doors to one and all, and

 

WHEREAS since its proud beginning St. Barnabas Catholic Church has continued to grow and serve the needs of the community, and has continued to build upon the traditions of family, education and Catholic leadership that have been so important to the parish and the neighborhood of Armour Square, and

 

WHEREAS 2024 marks the 100th Anniversary Year for St. Barnabas Catholic Church and will be celebrating at their All Parish and Alumni Block Party in June and a 100th Anniversary Gala in November, and

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Cook County that the Board does hereby extend its congratulations to all the parishioners, past and present, of St. Barnabas Catholic Church on the joyous occasion of its 100th Anniversary, and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and an official copy of same be presented to St. Barnabas Catholic Church, to commemorate this historic milestone.
