PROPOSED RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION HONORING APNA GHAR FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN PREVENTING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
WHEREAS, October is recognized nationally as Domestic Violence Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about the prevalence of domestic violence, support survivors, and promote prevention efforts; and
WHEREAS, Apna Ghar, located in Cook County's 10th District, is a vital organization dedicated to preventing domestic violence and providing culturally sensitive support and resources to survivors, particularly within the South Asian community; and
WHEREAS, Apna Ghar offers a comprehensive array of services including emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, youth programs, and community education aimed at empowering survivors and breaking cycles of abuse; and
WHEREAS, through its culturally specific approach, Apna Ghar addresses the unique challenges faced by immigrant and refugee communities, ensuring survivors receive trauma-informed care that respects their language, culture, and traditions; and
WHEREAS, Apna Ghar's outreach and prevention efforts help to increase awareness about domestic violence and promote healthy relationships within diverse communities in Cook County and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Cook County supports critical domestic violence prevention programs such as the Cook County Domestic Violence Prevention Council, the Cook County State's Attorney's Office Domestic Violence Units, and the Cook County Health Department's trauma-informed services, which work collaboratively with organizations like Apna Ghar to provide coordinated support for survivors and communities; and
WHEREAS, these combined efforts strengthen Cook County's commitment to ending domestic violence through prevention, intervention, education, and survivor support; and
WHEREAS, the Cook County Board of Commissioners wishes to honor and commend Apna Ghar for their tireless dedication, impactful programs, and unwavering commitment to fostering safe and violence-free comm...
