HONORING LINNAE HARPER AKA "THAT HARPER KID"
WHEREAS, Linnae Harper publicly known as "That Harper Kid" is a professional basketball athlete who was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, she attended and graduated from Whitney Young Magnet High School and ranked as the nation's No. 5 prospect and No. 2 guard according to ESPN.com - winning city championships and undefeated state champion; and
WHEREAS, Linnae attended The University of Kentucky and graduated from the Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in strategic communications and a master's degree in sports coaching all while achieving numerous athletic accolades. Linnae has much international experience winning six USA Gold medals and competing abroad since the age of 16; and
WHEREAS, in 2018, Linnae played for the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) Chicago Sky as well as the Washington Mystics and continues to play at the highest level. In 2023, Linnae was a part of the FIBA 3x3 World Cup Gold Medalist team that qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, and continues to be a part of the USA 3x3 Women's Series, and International Play competing in 30 different countries; and
WHEREAS, Linnae uses her professional platform and her unwavering passion for youth to enter the world of philanthropy establishing That Harper Kid 501(c)3 (THK) based out of the Southside of Chicago. Since 2019, THK has provided backpacks for more than 2500 students, provided programming for more than 750 students and has given away gifts and resources for their annual holiday toy drive to more than 700 families. THK programs includes sports, mentorship, community givebacks and college readiness; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby honor Linnae "That Harper Kid" Harper in recognition of her excellence in athletics, her ongoing commitment to her community, and empowering others who look just like her; and
