PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING CHANISE JENKINS FOR BEING SELECTED TO THE WOMEN'S USA BASKETBALL TEAM
WHEREAS, On Sunday, May 17, 2015, DePaul University's Chanise Jenkins was named to the USA Basketball World University Games Team roster; and
WHEREAS, Chanise Jenkins, a native of Cook County, is one of twelve collegiate women's basketball players chosen to compete and represent the United States of America in the 2015 World University Games, which will take place in Gwangju City, South Korea, July 5th through 13th; and
WHEREAS, Chanise Jenkins is the second player in the history of DePaul University Women's basketball to make the USA World University Games roster; and
WHEREAS, Chanise Jenkins, who is a graduate of Whitney Young High School and raised on Chicago's Southside in the neighborhood of Roseland, has demonstrated exceptional determination and a unyielding perseverance to achieve extraordinary success as a student athlete; and
WHEREAS, The accomplishments of Chanise Jenkins in the classroom and on the basketball court make her an outstanding role model as she exemplifies a level of achievement that is inspirational to all young people, especially young women throughout Cook County and the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, Chanise Jenkins is a living testament that African American youth can and will excel in life, regardless of their life circumstances, if they are provided opportunity, resources, and strong parental guidance; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Chanise Jenkins has received tremendous support and direction from her parents, Richard and Carla Jenkins, grandfather, Robert Jenkins, aunts, Betty Jenkins and Minnie Wheeler, sisters, Chavone, Debra, and Ryan, and cousin, Alexis Jenkins, who also had a successful basketball career at Illinois State University and is currently coaching women's basketball at the University of Alabama at Birmingham; and
