PROPOSED RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MAIN-DEMPSTER MILE SPECIAL SERVICE AREA
WHEREAS, a group of visionary local business owners in Southeast Evanston first petitioned for the creation of a dedicated business district in 2014, recognizing the immense potential for cooperative growth and revitalization; and
WHEREAS, in the summer of 2015, the Evanston City Council officially adopted the necessary ordinances to establish the Main-Dempster Mile as a Special Service Area (SSA), marking the formal beginning of this vital community organization; and
WHEREAS, for the past decade, the Main-Dempster Mile has diligently served its constituency by investing in critical enhancements, including public art installations, seasonal lighting, community signage, and streetscape improvements that have beautified and energized the commercial corridors of Chicago Avenue, Main Street, and Dempster Street; and
WHEREAS, the Main-Dempster Mile has successfully fostered a thriving ecosystem of local commerce, now representing over 200 independently-owned businesses and entrepreneurs whose unique offerings contribute profoundly to the character and economic stability of Evanston; and
WHEREAS, the organization has become a pillar of community engagement, creating cherished annual traditions through events such as the Wine Walk, Arts & Craft Beverage Crawl, and the Hometown Holiday Celebration, thereby strengthening the social fabric of the neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, the success of the Main-Dempster Mile is a testament to the dedication of its volunteer Board of Directors, its Executive Director, and the hundreds of merchants and residents who have collectively committed to the mission of promoting a vibrant, walkable, and welcoming district;
