PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING MORGAN PARK HIGH SCHOOL MUSTANGS 2016- 2017 3-A BOYS BASETBALL STATE CHAMPIONS
WHEREAS, members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners are proud to recognize excellence in high school sports; and
WHEREAS, the Cook County Board of Commissioners recognizes the importance of team sports in developing the qualities of respect, collaboration, hard work and dedication in young adults; and
WHEREAS, the Morgan Park High School Mustangs played 32 games in the 2016-2017 with a record of (26-6) and a League Record of 9-1; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Nick Irvin shares this victory with Athletic Director, Michael Berger, Assistant Coaches Josh Brown, Rodell Davis, Kurtis Ellision, Lauren Foster, Christian Hopkins, Lance Irvin, Terry Johnson, along with mangers Sharif King and Alan Taylor; and
WHEREAS, Coach Nick Irvin was names 2016-2017 Illinois Boys Basketball Coach of the Year by USA Today; and
WHEREAS, The Morgan Park Varsity Mustangs were led this year by their five Seniors: Melo Burrell, Quincy Dillard, Lenell Henry, Cam Irvin, and Tavaris McCullough; and
WHERAS, Seniors, Melo Burrell, Lenell Henry, and Cam Irvin were named to the All Red South Conference team. In addition Junior Ayo Dosunmu was named to the All city, All Red South Conference, All Area, and All State Teams. He also was named Daily South town Player of the Year, Rated top 20 Junior in the Country and Max Prep All American; and
WHEREAS the Mustangs competed in the Regional Semifinals defeating Evergreen Park 95-44, Regional Finals defeating Butler 81-64, Sectional Semifinals, vs Brooks, 85-60, Super Sectional Finals: Vs St. Rita defeating them 79-72, defeated Hillcrest 54-43, Lanphier 60-53 and defeated Fenwick in overtime 69-67 to win the Championship game.; and
WHEREAS, Morgan Park High School Varsity 2016-2017 team roaster of, Nimari Burnett, Cam Burell, Melo Burrell, Ayo Dosummu, Quincy Dillard, Kenyon Duling, Deandre Freeman, Jemari Harris, Lenell Henry, Cam Irvin, Tarvaris McCullough, Lamond Johnson, Tamell Pearson, Shon Robinson, Marcus Watson, are to be congratulated on leading Morgan Park High School Boys Varsity Basketball team to a great season and impressive 3-A Boys Basketball State Championship we are all proud of.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IR RESOLVED that members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners join the Morgan Park family, Led BY Dr. Carolyn Epps Principal and Asst. Principal Deborah Carter along friends and community in congratulating the coaching staff and team members of the Morgan Park High School on their great achievement and their sense of teamwork, respect, hard work and dedication.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be spread across the official text of the proceedings of this honorable body and that suitable copies hereof be presented to the administration, coaching staff and team members in honor of this occasion.
