HONORING THE 90th ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE SKOKIE VALLEY CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

WHEREAS, on Saturday, May 7, 2016 the Skokie Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will celebrate its 90th anniversary in Wilmette Illinois; and

WHEREAS, the Skokie Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in the village of Kenilworth on December 31, 1925; and

WHEREAS, during their 90 years, the members of the Skokie Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution have dedicated themselves to promoting education, patriotism and historic preservation; and

WHEREAS, the Skokie Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution played a major role in re-establishing the William Dawes Society of the Children of the American Revolution in Evanston, an organization that teaches patriotism to local children. They have sponsored annually a DAR Good Citizen Award that is presented to a local high school student each year since 1936 and sponsor an American History Essay Contest for local junior high school students; and

WHEREAS, in 1933 the Skokie Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution supported the Skokie Valley Civilian Conservation Corps Camp as they worked to build the Skokie Lagoons State Park; and

WHEREAS, during World War II members of the Skokie Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution served Sunday evening suppers to the servicemen at U.S.O Centers and sent packages to the Skokie Valley Military Police Camp; and

WHEREAS, the Skokie Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution has responded to the needs of veteran patients from 1935 to the present day and in 2011 the chapter was...
