WHEREAS, Dr. Bambade Shakoor-Abdullah was a Cook County resident who selflessly made extraordinary contributions to improve the quality of civic life, education, social conditions, and health for marginalized citizens; and

WHEREAS, she served for four years as a chaplain and mentor for Class X felons in the Cook County Department of Corrections, and

WHEREAS, she was a pioneer and a leader in efforts to combat the epidemic of violence and violent extremism; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Bambade Shakoor-Abdullah founded the Leadership Development Institute D/B/A Chicago Metropolitan Educational Center for Community Advancement, a faith based elementary school in South Suburban Cook County; and

WHEREAS, she partnered with U.S.D.A. and I.S.B.E. to provide meals to over 1,000 Cook County children a day through Free Meal and Summer Jobs program; and

WHEREAS, she recently conceived and started the Dreams and Visions Youth Outreach Program providing mentoring, life skills and job readiness training, college preparation, drug prevention and rites of passage to youth in South Suburban Cook County; and

WHEREAS, she was appointed by Governor Pat Quinn to the first Governors Muslim American Advisory Committee; and

WHEREAS, she served as a Director-at-large on the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Bambade Shakoor-Abdullah passed away on December 8, 2017; and
