PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE LIFE OF MACK HERRON
WHEREAS, almighty God, in His infinite wisdom, has called Mack Herron from our midst on December 6, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Mack Herron was born July 24, 1948 in Biloxi, Mississippi;
WHEREAS, Mack Herron attended Kansas State University where he finished second in the nation in scoring during his senior season in 1969; and
WHEREAS, Mack Herron although he was small in stature standing 5 feet 5 ½ inches and weighted approximately 170 pounds was selected in the sixth round by the Atlanta Falcons in 1970 NFL draft but joined the Canadian Football League out of college; and
WHEREAS, in 1972 during his tenure with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers the CFL team he won the Eddie James Memorial Trophy for being the leading rusher in the CFL’s West Division and he also led the league in all-purpose yards; and
WHEREAS, from 1973-1976 he played for the National Football League having played three seasons with New England Patriots and one season with the Atlanta Falcons; and
WHEREAS, Mack Herron led the NFL in kickoff returns and kick-off return yardage in 1973 his best season was 1974 with the New England Patriots, when he set the then-NFL record for all purposed yards with 2,444; and
WHEREAS, Mack Herron remains 10th all- time in career punt return averages in the NFL; and
WHEREAS, Mack Herron may be gone but his spirit and memories shall forever live on in our hearts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that The President of the Cook County Board along with the Cook County Board of Commissioners and behalf of the 5.2 million residents of Cook County, do offer out deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mack Herron and join them in sorrow at this time of loss; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this Resolution be tendered to the family of Mack Herron and a copy is spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body for his memory to so honored and ever cherished.
