Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF CLAUDELL ERVIN WHEREAS, On August 8, 1943 Claudell Ervin was born in Jackson, Mississippi to Claude and Geneva Ervin, and; WHEREAS, Commander Ervin married the love of his life, Thelma Johnson and was the father to two children, Jason Claude Ervin and Michele Ervin-Bussie, and; WHEREAS, Commander Ervin was baptized at an early age at Mandell United Methodist Church, later joined New Morning Star M.B. Church where he eventually served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors, and finally joined Third Baptist Church of Chicago under the leadership of Dr. Alan V. Ragland, and; WHEREAS, Commander Ervin was educated in Chicago Public Schools, attending Roswell B. Mason Elementary and David G. Farragut High School, where he excelled in athletics and received a scholarship to Central College in Pella, Iowa and later earned a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Chicago State University, and; WHEREAS, Commander Ervin began his career wit...

HONORING THE LIFE OF CLAUDELL ERVIN

WHEREAS, On August 8, 1943 Claudell Ervin was born in Jackson, Mississippi to Claude and Geneva Ervin, and;

WHEREAS, Commander Ervin married the love of his life, Thelma Johnson and was the father to two children, Jason Claude Ervin and Michele Ervin-Bussie, and;

WHEREAS, Commander Ervin was baptized at an early age at Mandell United Methodist Church, later joined New Morning Star M.B. Church where he eventually served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors, and finally joined Third Baptist Church of Chicago under the leadership of Dr. Alan V. Ragland, and;

WHEREAS, Commander Ervin was educated in Chicago Public Schools, attending Roswell B. Mason Elementary and David G. WHEREAS, Commander Ervin began his career with the Chicago Police Department in 1968, having served 13 years as a patrolman with various assignments which included the 15th, 21st, and 22nd Districts, and;

WHEREAS, in 1991 Commander Ervin was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned as the Commanding Officer for the Police Training Academy's Operations Section, then in 1996, he was promoted to Commander of the Area 1 Detective Division and later that year returned to his roots as Commander of the 11th District on the Westside of Chicago, and;

WHEREAS, in February 2000, after 32 years of service, Commander Ervin retired from the Chicago Police Department and throughout his retirement he remained committed to the City of Chicago, neighborhood residents and displayed a special commitment to uplifting young people, and;

WHEREAS, after his retirement from the Chicago Police Department, Commander Ervin returned to public service to serve as the Chief of Police for the Village of Hazel Crest Police Department until 2008...
