PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING MS. DOROTHY JEAN REID ON THE OCCASION OF HER 75TH BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, Ms. Dorothy Jean Reid was born September 12, 1943 in Sledge, Mississippi, and
WHEREAS, Ms. Reid began her career at United Airlines in 1968, where she worked more than 35 years in the following positions: reservations, tour agent, customer service agent, international ticketing agent, international ticket trainer, red carpet room associate, cargo etc., and
WHEREAS, Ms. Reid is a dedicated member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, where she has sung in the gospel choir and is a member of the United Methodist Women organization and the church visitor for the sick and shut in, and
WHEREAS, Ms. Reid graduated from Crane Technical High School in Chicago and attended Chicago State University & Wright Jr. College where she studied special education, and
WHEREAS, Ms. Reid has volunteered for several community organizations such as Operation PUSH which originated as Operation Bread Basket, and
WHEREAS, Ms. Reid volunteered her time to help the late Harold Washington during and after his campaign starting in 1982, and
WHEREAS, Ms. Reid has helped to raise seven nieces and nephews of which she has played an instrumental part into their success, and
WHEREAS, Ms. Reid combines her passion for family and community as is always willing to assist or help children, community members, and families in need. She often donates food, money, clothing, and housewares to several organizations including but not limited to: Good Will, Salvation Army, Shriners Children's Hospital, Howard University Hospital, Las Vegas Women's Homeless Shelters, Food Pantries in and around the Chicagoland area, and
WHEREAS, Ms. Reid is a community advocate and has participated in several marches and rallies during the movement in the 1960's including Dr. King's March on Washington, and the freedom marches of the 60's. In addition, she has walked in the Million Woman March, and
