Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING THE APPOINTMENT OF CHICAGO FIRE COMMISSIONER, ANNETTE NANCE-HOLT WHEREAS, Commissioner Nance-Holt was born and raised on the south side of Chicago within the Maple Park Community where she attended Chicago Public Schools; and WHEREAS, Commissioner Nance-Holt obtained a Bachelors of Arts - BA in Business Administration and Management from Chicago State University and a Masters of Science - MA in Public Administration and Fire & Emergency Management in 2018 from Anna Marie College. WHEREAS, Commissioner Nance-Holt was born and raised on the south side of Chicago within the Maple Park Community where she attended Chicago Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Commissioner Nance-Holt obtained a Bachelors of Arts - BA in Business Administration and Management from Chicago State University and a Masters of Science - MA in Public Administration and Fire & Emergency Management in 2018 from Anna Marie College. WHEREAS, in December 1990, Commissioner Nance-Holt began her career as a firefighter within the Chicago Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, through her 31-year career, Commissioner Nance-Holt has steadily advanced within the Chicago Fire Department as a Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief, and Deputy District Chief; and

WHEREAS, in 2007, Commissioner Nance-Holt founded a nonprofit, Purpose Over Pain, after the tragic shooting of her 16-year-old son, Blair Holt, on a CTA bus as he was protecting a fellow classmate from gunfire. The organization focuses on providing a variety of resources, including support groups, to parents who have lost their children to gun violence. Purpose Over Pain is committed to mentoring youth and working to change the narrative in communities of color; and

WHEREAS, subsequently, Commissioner Nance-Holt founded the Blair Holt Peace Alliance c/o Blair Holt Memorial Foundation that is committed to providing youth, parents and the community with essential life-skills-components including information, resources, and education necessary to stem and reduce all forms of violence; and

WHEREAS, in 2018, Commissioner Nance-Holt became the first woman and first black woman to serve as First Deputy Commissioner; and
