Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING DELORIS MEBAIN, FORMER NBC 5 VICE PRESIDENT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS WHEREAS, Deloris Mebain was born on January 1,1948 in in the historic Ida B. Wells homes on Chicago's Southside; and WHEREAS, Deloris was a lifelong resident of Cook County, who selflessly made extraordinary contributions to improve the community; and her beloved seniors of Pioneer Gardens; and WHEREAS, Deloris is a veteran journalist working more 20 years at NBC-5. After stints in the sales and editorial departments at NBC 5, she would finish the last half of her career as the stations Vice President of Community Affairs; and WHEREAS, Deloris spearheaded Emmy award winning station projects including vital community issues, race relations, health, and education. Deloris also coordinated editorial programs and public service efforts to tackle literacy, winter coat drives and homework hotline. Her outreach efforts led her to host a meeting for the young southside activist named Barack Obam...

HONORING DELORIS MEBAIN, FORMER NBC 5 VICE PRESIDENT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS

 

WHEREAS, Deloris Mebain was born on January 1,1948 in in the historic Ida B. Wells homes on Chicago’s Southside; and

 

WHEREAS, Deloris was a lifelong resident of Cook County, who selflessly made extraordinary contributions to improve the community; and her beloved seniors of Pioneer Gardens; and

 

WHEREAS, Deloris is a veteran journalist working more 20 years at NBC-5. After stints in the sales and editorial departments at NBC 5, she would finish the last half of her career as the stations Vice President of Community Affairs; and

 

WHEREAS, Deloris spearheaded Emmy award winning station projects including vital community issues, race relations, health, and education. Deloris also coordinated editorial programs and public service efforts to tackle literacy, winter coat drives and homework hotline. WHEREAS, Deloris has received more than 100 awards from community and civic organizations including National Black Public Relations Society, Chicago Association of Black Journalist, and Chicago Chapter of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences; and

 

WHEREAS, Deloris recruited volunteers for Junior Achievement and countless other causes including painting and redecorating the children’s clinic at Cook County Hospital; and

 

WHEREAS, In February of 2000 Deloris would step out on faith and leave her well secured job at NBC 5, to start her own PR Firm, Mebain Media Group; and

 

WHEREAS, Deloris was devoted member of South Park Baptist Church, where she served as usher, church clerk, supervisor of the youth and young adult ushers and Director of the youth ministries; and

 

WHEREAS, Deloris passed away on January 24, 2022, after her battle with COVID; and

 

WHEREAS, is survived by her daughters, Tonya Mebain and Tracy Zackery, granddaughters, Alexis, and Alicia, along with a host of family and friends; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, hereby offer its deepest condolences and most heartfelt sympathy to the family of Deloris Mebain and honor the life and memory of this outstanding Cook County resident.
