PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CELEBRATING THE GLENVIEW PARK DISTRICT’S ILLINOIS ASSOCIATION OF PARK DISTRICTS (IAPD) AWARDS FOR COVID COLLABORATIONS
WHEREAS, the Glenview Park District saw immediate need for safe, distanced activities and environments for families and students during the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS, the Glenview Park District’ s Camp Recreation, Enrichment, Community (REC) program was created in partnership with School District 34, Wesley Child Care, the Glenview Park Foundation, Glenview Public Library, and Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook to accommodate students while Glenview area schools navigated virtual and hybrid learning, offering small group pods with recreational activities; and
WHEREAS, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when classes were remote, Camp REC supported 120 students across 15 Glenview Park District facilities, allowing the students to participate in remote learning under the supervision of staff from Glenview’s Wesley Child Care; and
WHEREAS, the Camp REC program allowed parent who were often essential workers to know their children were safe and taken care of; and
WHEREAS, understanding the needing for programs of this type, the Glenview Park Foundation provided $57,200 in scholarships to increase the program’s reach; and
WHEREAS, the Glenview/Northbrook Coronavirus Task Force was also created as the March 2020 shutdown was looming, and worked to share information and resources to effectively respond to the threat of COVID-19 in the Glenview and Northbrook communities; and
WHEREAS, the Task Force was comprised of Villages of Glenview, and Northbrook, Northfield Township, Northbrook School District 27, Northbrook School District 28, Northbrook Glenview School District 30, West Northfield School District 31, Glenview School District 34, Glenbrook High School District 225, the Glenview and Northbrook Park Districts, the Glenview and Northbrook Public Libraries, the Glenview and Northbrook Chambers of Commerce, and Glenbrook Hospital leadership; and
WHEREAS, the Task Force partnered with federal, state, and county legislators to open a free COVID-19 testing center in Glenview’s Flick Park; and
WHEREAS, the Task Force and coordinated with firefighters from the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Division 3 and Cook County Commissioners to open a community vaccination clinic at New Trier High School, as well as several vaccination clinics at Glenbrook South High School and Glenview Park Center; and
WHEREAS, the Glenview Park District was rightly recognized by the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) with the Best of the Best Partnership Award for their efforts and undertaking proving safe, distanced spaces for youth regardless of ability to pay, as well as the Best of the Best Intergovernmental Cooperation Award for their collaboration on the Glenview/Northbrook Coronavirus Task Force; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Commissioners of Cook County that the Board does hereby congratulate the Glenview Park District on these distinct honors; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and a suitable copy of the same be tendered to the Glenview Park District as a means of conveying our thanks and congratulations.
