PROPOSED RESOLUTION
REQUESTING A PUBLIC HEARING OF THE COOK COUNTY HEALTH AND HOSPITALS COMMITTEE FOR A REPORT FROM THE COOK COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH CONCERNING THE PROGRESS OF CONTACT TRACING IN COOK COUNTY
WHEREAS, the County, state, and country have been besieged by the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic since it first appeared in the United States in January 2020; and
WHEREAS, from January 1, 2020 through October 6, 2020 there have been 62,588 confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 in Cook County with 1,952 reported deaths; and
WHEREAS, contact tracing is a time-honored tool of public health professionals to protect the public from the spread of contagious disease; and
WHEREAS, the Cook County Department of Public Health is charged with conducting contact tracing for suburban Cook County, except in those jurisdictions that have their own certified health departments; and
WHEREAS, the Cook County Department of Public Health has received $43 million in grants to hire the staff required to conduct contact tracing throughout Cook County.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Health and Hospitals Committee convene a public hearing to discuss the progress of hiring contact tracing staff and their contact tracing efforts to date.
