PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE LIFE AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE HONORABLE LEON WOOL
WHEREAS, Leon was born and raised on Chicago's South Side-Hyde Park. He moved to Evanston to raise his family; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from DePaul University College of Law, Leon was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1963. He began his legal career as an attorney with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) where he worked for 35 years. He was initially assigned to the litigation unit and tried hundreds of cases. He was later placed in charge of Labor Relations and oversaw hundreds of labor disputes. His final assignment with the CTA was as First Assistant General Attorney. In that position he was responsible for the operation of the large legal section of the CTA and supervised trial lawyers in the litigation and the claims departments; and
WHEREAS, when he became an Illinois Circuit Court judge, he was immediately assigned to jury cases because of his extensive litigation experience. He served as a judge for 20 years. During that time, he mentored many younger judges and contributed significantly to the administration of justice in Cook County. He was highly respected for his even-handedness, knowledge, and ability to manage a heavy caseload and busy courtroom; and
WHEREAS, Leon was a devoted father and grandfather. He loved his children and grandchildren more than anything. Leon also loved his many friends and colleagues. Everyone Leon met was treated as a friend and felt like royalty. He loved to laugh, sports, travel, and read; and
WHEREAS, Leon was preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Bernadette "Bunny" Wool. He will be fondly remembered by his children Louis, Steve, and Imily; grandchildren Ebonique, Isiaha, Leighah, and Xavier, and by many friends and colleagues.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners of Cook County, on behalf of the 5.2 million residents of Cook County, honors the work and contributions of the Honorable Leo...
